Sun, 11 May 2008 11:30:27
Iran’s former president Seyyed Mohammad Khatami has said that the Muslim World is facing the threat of Islamophobia by foreign powers.
Khatami noted that both Sunnis and Shias should confront the threats posed by big powers against Muslims.
“Shia and Sunni scholars should engage in dialogue with the aim of increasing the level of their cooperation,” Mehr News Agency quoted Khatami as saying.
Speaking in a meeting with an Egyptian delegation in Cairo, Khatami expressed hope that Iran and Egypt will work toward elevating the level of their relations soon.
“A group of Egyptian professors visited Iran last year and held constructive talks with their Iranian counterparts,” he added.
For his part, Sheikh Mahmoud Ashour, who headed the Al-Azhar team in the meeting with Khatami, expressed optimism that relations between the two countries will improve in the near future.
