The Late Imam Warith Deen Mohammed (May ALLAH be pleased with him)

The Late Imam Warith Deen Mohammed (May ALLAH be pleased with him)

It’s with great sadness that I announce the passing of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed today.

Imam Mohammed, born in Detroit, Michigan in 1933, transformed the Nation of Islam in 1975 from a Black Nationalist organization to a mainstream Islamic movement.

He was America’s Imam; he had the largest following of Muslims of any Muslim leader in the USA.

I’ll write more about my late teacher later on, G’d willing.

  1. Oh no! Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun… May Allah (swt) be pleased with him and grant him Jannat Firdous insha’Allah.

  2. Ramadan Mubarak! We owe Our Great Benefactor (SWT) for blessing us with a sincere and knowlegdable brother as Imam Mohammed. A freedom fighter for humanity. His work is a challenge to all of us to fulfill our excellent potential that Allah has ordained for us. But, we must strive to attain that potential thru more work. May Allah have mercy on the soul of the final Prophet (PBUH) and Allah’s messengers and let us continue this deen as a testament to our sojourn here in America (Inshallah). We ask Allah for continued victory and success in his holiest month of Ramadan and provide peace and mercy on the soul of Imam Mohammed and the great leaders and pioneers who have passed before us. Allah u Akbar!

17:71 One day We shall call together all human beings with their (respective) imams: those who are given their record in their right hand will read it (with pleasure), and they will not be dealt with unjustly in the least.

May Allah bestows an abundance of rewards upon this great man who was instrumental in the betterment of thousands of life. What can be better that one who works to help others to become better?

  4. Asalamu alaykum,

“To Allah we belong and to Allah we return.” I was very saddened by this news. Our prayers and supplications are for the Imam and his community.

  5. Aslaam wa Alaikum:

Allah giveth and Allah taketh away….may we all remember the great contributions of this magnificent brother, and move forward with the same courage that he demonstrated so many years ago and be right with Allah (swt). Remember our weak, our poor, our disenfranchised and uplift them as he tried to do so many times.

May Allah grant him paradise and light in his grave and may he be pleased with our Ummah and May Allah watch over Imam WD Mohammed’s family and community in this time of loss. May Allah help us to find the joy in that he took his sevant in this blessed month of Ramadan and all the significance of this. May we also in this month of mercy reflect on this great loss and be merciful to others and forgive each other for only Allah knows when our time will come.

  6. Assalaamu Alaikum.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon.

For me Imam Warith Deen Muhammed’s life is an example of what it means to be a great American and a devout Muslim.

I’ve read that in his migration from Nation of Islam teachings to traditional Sunni Islam, he marked the break with a public appearance carrying an American flag and proclaiming that it was time for African Americans to celebrate America.

His life has so many notable milestones, many of which have served to help the rest of us in ways we do not fully appreciate. His life was full of firsts for Muslims.

In an era where being a great American and a devout Muslim are constantly challenged as inconsistent, Imam Warith Deen Muhammed seamlessly wove the two together into the fabric of his legacy.

We needed him to do so much more for us, but alas, his time had come.

May God reward him for all the good that he did and forgive any of his shortcomings and grant him a place in the highest ranks of Paradise. Ameen.

Ramadan Mubarak. To Allah(swt) do we belong and to Allah(swt) do we return. May Allah(swt) grant his soul peace and light in his grave and a high place in paradise. He touched thousands of lives, including my own, and turned us from ignorance in 1975 to the true religion of Islam. I’m grateful for his endeavor, patience and hard work.
    As-Salaam Alaikum

  8. Bismillah–
The blessings for passing during Ramadan are numerous. Though we will, for a very long time, feel the loss of such a blessed and wise Imam, we should rest assured that it was decreed before his birth that he would make such an impact upon humanity and that he will return to his Creator during such a blessed and Holy month. Shukran-Allah for such a leader. WDM’s blessings will be continuous because of the wealth of knowledge he has left behind for all receptive people. A gift that keeps on giving, and a blessing that will tip his scale and, insha-Allah, increase his rank magnficently. Ramadan Mubarak. If when my time comes I can have even an iota of the pleasure I am confident Allah has/had with WDM, I will be at ease, insha-Allah. Let us all die having submitted ourselves to what is right and in a state of purity, seeking Allah’s pleasure and shunning all he has forbidden.

  9. I’ve learned this sad news relatively late in Turkey. it’s a great lost for Muslims in the USA in general and African American Muslims in particiular. He’s not replaceable Muslim and Community leader and guidance. I became very familiar with him and his community when I did my doctorate research on the African American Muslims with a specific reference to the Nation of Islam’s transition. His comments and policies really impressed me. May Allh Bless his Soul and Grant him a place in Paradise. I would like to extend my condolences to his family members, especially Ngina Muhammad, and leading Muslim İmama and professionals in his community, Imam Darnel Kareem, İmam Rbbani Mubashir, İmam Sultan Saladdin, İmam Muar B. Deen, professionals, Sister Ayesha Mustafaa, the editor of Muslim Journal, Sister Zubaydah Madyun, Shaheed Wangara, Latifah Wangara, and etc..May Allah give mercy and grace for all his community members and Muslims in the USA. Your brother in Islam , Dr Nuri Tinaz
