Two days ago, a letter was sent to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division seeking a thorough investigation into the killing of Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah by FBI agents. Signers of the letter included ACLU-MI, Congress of Arab-American Organizations (CAAO), CAIR-MI, Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality, Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice (ICPJ) and the National Lawyers Guild – Detroit/Michigan.
The letter posed the following issues which need clarification:
• Whether the FBI canine was trained and subsequently directed by the FBI agents to attack Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah;
• Whether Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah surrendered before the FBI canine was unleashed to attack him;
• Whether Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah suffered bodily injuries as a result of the attack by the FBI canine;
• Whether Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah shot the FBI canine as an act of self-defense;
• Whether Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah shot at any FBI agents, excluding the FBI K-9;
• The number of times Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah was shot, as well as how many rounds were fired at him by the federal agents;
• The locations on his body where Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah was shot;
• Whether excessive use of deadly force was employed by the federal agents under the circumstances;
• Whether Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah was dead at the time he was handcuffed.
