NAACP rally to address police conduct

HAMTRAMCK NAACP CALLS AN OUTDOOR RALLY TO ADDRESS POLICE CONDUCT
MARCH 23, 2010, 5:30pm, Zussman Park, 3401 Evaline, Hamtramck 48212, across from City Hall

The recent arrest of Corinthian Church minister, Rev. Wayne Little, has added to the growing concerns in the community about police procedure and insensitivity towards people of color. The Hamtramck NAACP is sponsoring an outdoor rally on Tuesday, March 23rd at 5:30pm just prior to the 7pm City Council meeting where the issue of creating a Citizens Review Board to oversee issues on public safety will be discussed. The rally will feature prominent state and local activists, and local performers. It will address longstanding concerns of the community about discrimination and insensitivity.

The NAACP is offering solutions to foster better relations between the police and the community, and creating more community involvement in policing. The Hamtramck NAACP says Hamtramck needs a police force that serves, protects AND respects ALL the people of the city. “Community support of law enforcement can be strengthened when everyone in Hamtramck feels included in the process of making our city safe and attractive,” says Hamtramck NAACP President, Kamal Rahman.
