‘Law Enforcement: The People and the State’

Yesterday,”US Department of Justice and Department of State’s UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review Civil Society Consultation” was held at Wayne State University in Detroit.

The consultation, which was co-sponsored by Wayne State University Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights and ADC-MI convened officials from the Department of Justice, Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, judges and civil rights organizations to discuss issues of structural racism, immigration issues and tension with law enforcement affecting minority communities.

The audio below is of a panel titled “Law Enforcement: The People and the State,” which discussed issues relating to law enforcement misconduct including the misuse of confidential informants in religious institutions.

Panelist ADC-MI Advisory Board member Ihsan Alkhatib, Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Abed Hammoud, CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid and Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality Director Ron Scott.
