First day of Dhul Hijjah, ‘Eid on 11/16

Today marks the 1st day of the sacred month of Dhul Hijjah, the month in which the Hajj is performed.

The Qur’an says in the opening portion of chapter called Al-Fajr:

وَالْفَجْرِ
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

With G-d’s name, the Merciful Benefactor, the Merciful Redeemer

By the Dawn.

And by the ten nights.

And by the even and the odd.

And by the night when it leaves.

The verses elude the blessed ten nights and days of this sacred month when worship of the Creator should be increased.

The Day of Arafat will be on November 15, which makes `Eid Al-Adha on November 16.
